This is a video response in regards to the following claims made by AboutCCTV channel: 1. DVRs are more reliable than IP cameras 2. DVRs record video in higher resolution than IP cameras (check out the video for yourself www.youtube.com These two claims are based on a “red herring” argument proposed by the presenter (quote) “IP cameras and NVRs, you have to have the Internet between the two. If the Internet goes down, well so do your cameras.” This statement is completely false. You do not have to have an Internet connection to record from an IP camera system. The vast majority of IP camera systems installed are setup to record locally to an onsite NVR/NAS, not over the Internet. Often IP cameras systems are connected to the Internet, not for recording, but for the purposes of remote viewing and playback. If the Internet goes down, the recordings still continue onsite. Finally, IP cameras are capable of recording more than 10x the resolution of a DVR. Even your humble iPhone4 can record in resolutions many times higher than a DVR system.
